Martin Luther

Since the beginning of this week things that I have learned before have been explored in much greater depth, and there are many things that I have learned for the first time.

As being a Protestant Lutheran I have learned countless information about Martin Luther, however I found it to be very interesting that in a way Martin Luther was influenced by Erasmus. From what I have learned previously seemed as though Martin Luther was a man who created all of his own ideas and was just angered by the Catholics.

My favorite thing that I learned about Martin Luther was that fact that he had an epiphany while he was "using the restroom." The epiphany that hit him was the meaning of the word metanoi. Metanoi's definition has been changed prior to Martin Luther's epiphany with the word. When Jerome created the Vulgate he created the word to mean "a change in heart." When Erasmus updated the Vulgate he changed the meaning to "Repent." Which was the meaning Martin Luther had his epiphany with. Martin Luther realized that man does not need a priest in order to talk to god, Martin Luther believed that every man is a priest and every man can talk to god himself.
