Sigmund Freud

This week we read Civilization and its Discontents. I found this book hard to understand, Dr. Tucker in class made it clear what the author was trying to get across. Dr. Tucker explained that the Freud thought that a young boy would be jealous of his father through his mother. The Freud explains that the young boy views his mother as a pleasure object, where the baby would be soothed if anything is ever wrong with him, whether he is hungry or scared. The young boy would be jealous of his father because he viewed him to be a threat to his pleasure, the boy would think that his father could take his mother away from him. However over time the boy begins to notice that his father is big and masculine and sees him to have power and begins to idolize his father.
